Former mayor of Kacanik, Xhabir Zharku, who was sentenced in 2011 to three years in prison for extortion and the illegal possession of weapon, has returned home last week as free man after six years on the run. Upon his return to his hometown after the statute of limitations has expired, Zharku said that he returned home to help “develop the country”.
Zharku escaped to Sweden and his extradition was impossible because holds Swedish citizenship. Only days after the Court confirmed that the statute of limitation has expired, former KLA commander and ex-mayor of Kacanik entered freely the territory of Kosovo. In an interview with the dialy Zeri Zharku, considers that he respected the Court’s order, considering that for six years he was banned from entering Kosovo, and was forced, as he said, to live in Sweden. He said that after returning home, his priority will be economic recovery of Kosovo.
