EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, has not excluded the possibility of redrawing border between Kosovo and Serbia emphasizing that potential correction of border should never lead to ethnically ‘pure’ states.
Mogherini said the EU would welcome a comprehensive, legally binding agreement as an outcome of the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue on normalisation of relations, without any division along the ethnic lines. “The dialogue belongs to the parties involved, while Brussels facilitates it. It’s up to Pristina and Belgrade to define the topics, speed, details and outcome. It is not on EU to say what an outcome should be,” Mogherini said. “Let me be clear. Whatever ideas on correction (of the borders) may be on the agenda, it will never lead to ethnically ‘pure’ states." Mogherini said she was still optimistic that a legally binding agreement could be reached, despite some big problems existing right now. Mogherini urged authorities in Pristina to revoke the 100 percent customs tariffs on goods from Serbia and Bosnia. She said that introduction of tariffs was not in a spirit of cooperation and was contrary to what had been agreed. She believes the two sides could reach a positive result.
