Kosovo Parliament to vote demarcation on Tuesday

Kosovo Parliament to vote demarcation on Tuesday GazetaExpress

Gazeta Express has learned that the Parliament of Kosovo will hold on Tuesday an extraordinary session when MPs are expected to vote on ratification of the Agreement on border demarcation with Montenegro.

Kosovo MPs are expected to vote the Agreement on demarcation with Montenegro on Tuesday after Parliament failed three times in a row to ratify the disputed deal. The ruling coalition partners have failed to get 80 votes necessary to ratify the demarcation. Mps of ruling coalition and LDK from opposition are supporting ratification of the deal, whereas the other opposition party of Vetevendosje is opposing the agreement claiming that under current deal Kosovo loses 8,200 hectares of land. Also Serbian MPs who are part of the ruling coalition have boycotted previous sessions of parliament and stated that ratification of demarcation is not their priority. Ruling coalition leaders are hoping individual MPs will vote ratification of demarcation and announced that no new session of Parliament will be held without getting majority in Parliament.

Ratification of the demarcation with Montenegro is one of the last criteria for Kosovo to get visa liberalisaiton with the EU. Kosovo leaders have warned that if Parliament delays its ratification it will miss the deadlines for the EU to lift visas for Kosovo in 2018.
