Albanian authorities have introduced today the toll fees on the National Road between Durres and Kukes, which also links Albania to Kosovo.
The toll fee was reduced to 5 Euro and local citizens of Kukes will pay only 0.8 Euro (ALL100). The Albania’s government first attempt to impose toll fees in March had set the toll charge for using the road between EUR2.5 and EUR22. This led to violent protests demolishing the toll system booths as protestors claimed that the toll system will isolate them as there are no alternatives to the road. The concessionaire has already rebuilt the toll booths on the road. The newly set fees will apply to all types of vehicles.
