Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci, has remembered 19th anniversary of signing of the Kumanovo Agreement between NATO and Yugoslav Army. Thaci said that this agreement has stopped war in Kosovo.
“Nineteen years since signing of the Kumanovo Agreement, that ended the war in Kosovo. A 78-day air campaign against Serbian military targets gave its expected results,” Thaci said. According to Thaci the air campaign of NATO prevented ethnic cleansing, humanitarian catastrophe, and deterioration of the crisis in the region and forced Serbia to withdraw its police, military and paramilitary forces from Kosovo.
According to Kosovo President, the war and Serbia’s terror have lasted too long, but at the end Kosovo people returned to normal life. “With the help of our friendly countries, we rebuilt our free country and made it independent and sovereign. Kosovo now is factor of peace in the region and a successful story,” Thaci wrote.
The Military Technical Agreement between the International Security Force ("KFOR") and the Governments of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Republic of Serbia (commonly known as the Military Technical Agreement or Kumanovo Agreement) was an accord concluded on 9 June 1999 in Kumanovo, Macedonia. It ended the Kosovo war.
