Kosovo President Hashim Thaci who is staying in Washington, during an interview with the Voice of America commented on the Agreement on border demarcation with Montenegro, signed by him in 2015 in his capacity as foreign Minister of Kosovo. Current version of the Agreement is being disputed by newly elected prime minister Ramush Haradinaj. Ratification of the border Agreement is one of the last criteria for Kosovo to get visa liberalisation with the EU.
Thaci commenting on forming of the new Government said that Kosovo was not delayed in forming new institutions, although the speaker of Assembly was elected after six consecutive failed session of the Assembly. Commenting on the stance of the new Government on demarcation with Montenero, Thaci said that it is important for Kosovo to ratify the Agreement and refused to comment on Haradinaj’s efforts to amend current version of the Agreement signed by Thaci in 2015. Thaci told VoA that the demarcation is “only Kosovo’s issue,” Gazeta Express reports.
When asked about the dialogue with Serbia facilitated by the EU, Thaci said that the dialogue between the two countries has no alternative. “Good neighbourly relations should prevail. It is in the interest of both countries, and the region, as well as for the EU to have peace between Kosovo and Serbia. Peace between Kosovo and Serbia means stability in the region,” Thaci said. /Express/
