The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) during a meeting with the special envoys of Germany and France, have assured the EU diplomats that this opposition party will prevent the initiative to abrogate the Law on Special Court. Germany and France sent a joint delegation to Kosovo on Wednesday in latest efforts of the EU to stop the initiative of Kosovo MPs aimed at scrapping the war crimes court established to try alleged crimes committed by the KLA.

Representatives of the opposition party of the LDK met on Thursday the delegation of the German and France foreign affairs composed of the Special Envoy for South-Eastern Europe, Turkey and the EFTA States of the German Federal Foreign Office, Christian Hellbach, and the Head of the Western Balkans Department of the French Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs, Thomas Bertin. According to a joint press release issued by embassies of France and Germany the visit in Kosovo takes place against the background of concerns in Berlin and Paris about recent attempts to abolish the law on the Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office. The LDK officials assured the delegation that they will never become part of this “immature” action.

“The chief of caucus of the LDK, Avdullah Hoti, accompanied by MPs Armend Zemaj and Lumir Abdixhiku, received today in a meeting a delegation consisted of the Special Envoy for South-Eastern Europe, Turkey and the EFTA States of the German Federal Foreign Office, Christian Hellbach, and the Head of the Western Balkans Department of the French Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs, Thomas Bertin, as well as ambassadors of Germany and France, Christian Heldt and Didier Chambert, respectively,” it is stated in a press release issued by the LDK. During the meeting the special envoys expressed concern of Berlin and Paris related to the initiative of Kosovo MPs to abrogate the Law, it is stated in the press release. “Mr. Hoti informed German and French envoys that the tendency to abrogate the Law on Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecution Office damages international position of Kosovo and its path towards Euro-Atlantic integrations. Further Hoti assured the emissaries that maintaining friendly relations with Germany, France and other EU countries, the US, NATO is crucial,” it is stated in the press release assuring the EU diplomats that the LDK assured that they will not become part of such initiatives.
