Kosovo’s Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj said that he discussed with the US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, David Hale, on necessity of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
The US envoy David Hale is in Kosovo today when he met president Hashim Thaci, speaker Kadri Veseli and prime minister Ramush Haradinaj. After the meeting Haradinaj in a Facebook post said that told the US Under Secretary that Kosovo is ready to continue the dialogue with Serbia. “I reiterated that we are ready for dialogue and we call on Serbia to return at the negotiation table to discuss all open issues, including the free trade and reach an agreement which results in recognising current borders,” Haradinaj wrote in Facebook.
Haradinaj in his Facebook post has not mentioned the issue of tariffs which was introduced by Kosovo Government on all imports of Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Hale’s visit to Kosovo was widely commented as an attempt of the US senior official to try and convince Pristina to revoke or suspend a tariff on Serb goods so that dialogue with Serbia can resume. Haradinaj is resisting the US request of suspending tariffs, saying that the tax will be lifted only after Serbia recognises Kosovo’s independence.
